Hey there! So basically, in this community, there are talented artists, and others.. that just haven't gotten the hang of it yet. This is going to be a short and simple guide on making more advanced, and professional looking art. I'm not trying to be rude or disrespectful, so if you would like, I can edit things out.
Poses
Many people in the community get this part wrong. They simply make a character, with a typical smile, simply bending their arms. This, my friends, is what honestly drives me crazy. I suggest you watch people like ScorpyGFX, Vane, and/or ShadowzGraphics. These are all great examples of graphic design. I suggest you think of a pose that would seem more realistic. Another thing, is to lay off the face. If used well, using a face rig can look good, but most of the time, people make it look.. unpleasant. Try simply using the skin alone. To enhance your render, maybe add an item.
Photoshop and Editing
When in the editing stage, its better to not over edit it, meaning don't over add effects like light flares and starbursts. Instead, keep it simple. Add nice, simple text and then give it some perspective (Edit>Transform>Perspective). Another thing peope mess up on, is lighting. Again, keep it simple. Add a few CC's (I suggest getting a gfx pack as that starts you off quite nicely), then picking out a few good CC's. You can also mess around with the hue/saturation, by doing control+u. Make sure you don't get the lighting messed up with that. Again, watch youtubers to see how good lighting may look like. I suggest you take a few days to find good youtubers.
Other stuff
Mastering these tips won't take a few days, but a few weeks and a lot of trial and error. I have over 2 years of experience and think of myself to be just about average in skill.
