I want to try to make a map for The Minecraft Survival Games. What do I need to do?

Title says it all! If this works, it'll be my first attempt at making a custom map!

A server would be nice to have so people could come and help you. Then i would say World edit and creativity.

I suggest you download a domed flatland terrain from
http://www.minecraftsurvivalgames.c...dome-download-grass-stone-desert-plains.3565/

You can then assemble a team of builders and host a server with World Edit plugin and possibly even Voxel Sniper if you know how to use it, it's a great tool for creating your own maps. Also stay focused map building takes a long time it doesn't happen in a matter of a few days.
