i need help connecting

basically i used to play loads of hg but its been a couple months now but i started trying to play again recently, and i have the new 1.6.2 update
1.6.2 is installed. ever since that i havent been able to get into any hg servers.
i will describe what i do.
-i log in using the normal, recently downloaded new launcher
-click on multiplayer
-click on a hg server (i tried dozens and dozens now)
- it gets to the loading terrain, after that it says either
timeout or it says internal exception: java.net.socketTimeoutException: read time out
i have searched and googled throughout the internet and these forums but have no clue about how to fix it
please help, i just wanna play hg for once sigh :<

Ummm, did you buy minecraft? Also, someone might be using your account so you cannt get in.

It's the mods you have installed or your internet connection is unstable. I just helped a guy fix that by reinstalling Minecraft without any mods. Try that. If it doesn't work, then message me back, I have one more solution but it's a little bit more complicated. Also... Please don't double post, there's an edit button. Thanks.

yeah i learnt about the edit a bit late there, heh
but it is a fresh new minecraft i am using, but ill try re install it again.
i dont actually use mods, i use vanilla. but... worth a shot in the dark

What I would do, is reinstall java, and get optifine. If that doesn't work, just tell me, and I will help you out.

hmm, i tried all this, and i also installed optifine,
it works, as i tried it in singleplayer, and i followed every instruction to the letter, to be sure.
and optifine works in singleplayer,
but i cant get on any multiplayer servers at all
