How to join a game???

Hi Minecrafters,
As you might have guessed, I am new to the Survival Games and extremely excited!!First thing i need to ask - do you need lots of experience playing survival mode beforehand or can you just go into the game and 'improvise'?

Also, how do you join a game?! Like, where do you go to join one, i looked on the servers on this site but there's no button that says 'join'. How do you find an available one and then how do you join it??!!!

Experience helps, but the only way to get better is to practice.
