How do you know your district?

I'm just wondering how you're supposed to know your district when you're playing. Whenever someone wins, the automated chat message says which district the winner is from, and I keep seeing people say which district they are, although they might be making it up. Is there any way to know what it is?

That's what I initially thought, but then someone said it was the number of points you have.
