this happens to people a lot when they have outdated mods in their client.
Try to force update, and see what happens

same :( this is stupid :( all the mods tell you is to change dns settings or check you put the right ip in done that didn't work why dont they do a server hub much simpler if it's this much hassel to get in then the servers are probably shite anyway

Dont rage!, be patient, we can find a solution.

Here are a few Tips how to fix it maybe:

- delete every mods / hacks , i hope you know that hacks and mods who gives you an advantage arent allowed
Only allowed mods are Optifine Mod and Shaders

Doesnt work?, try that:
- try to force update your minecraft Stunt_PIg already said
IMPORTANT: first dont install any mods just try it with a new minecraft.jar

Doesnt work?, try that:
Update Java, go to google and type in java ( you need to know the bits of your system first
Windows xp Tutorial
Windos 7 Tutorial
Then download the right Java installer and reinstall java

Doesnt work?, try that:
- delete your complete .minecraft folder , go to start type in "run" then type in the run task, " %appdata% " then theres a .minecraft folder delete him, IMPORTANT: if you want to save your worlds, servers and so on, go in the folder, and pull out the "saves" folder and put it anywhere where you remember it, then open the "bin" folder ( for the following step you need a program for special folder types, the program that i use is winrar, you can also use 7zip ( i dont know more programs ) ) then open the " minecraft.jar" and pull the "servers.dat" file out of it, and save it somewhere, like the saves.

then delete the .minecraft folder
then start the Minecraft.exe and login with your username and it will update

Doesnt work?, try that:
Restart your familys lan-router

Nothing worked?, try that:
read through the guides ( -and some others ) again, ill post a few guides who can may help you below
