Since I built my PC back in February, it's been working great! Up until today, that is...

This is my part list:

Anyway, today I had started my PC up and was browsing the forums when suddenly my screen went completely black and my fans started turning at hyperspeed. However, I could still hear my music which led me to believe that it was a problem with my graphics card.

I turned off my PC for about 15 minutes via flipping the switch in the back. I turned it back on, and it appeared to be working just fine!

However, it's been doing it again for the past few hours. Sometimes it happens 30 seconds after startup, while other times it happens 20 minutes later. Sometimes the fans start spinning at hyperspeed while other times they don't. Each time, though, I can still hear out of my headphones and others can still hear me talking.

I'm 90% positive that this is a problem with my GPU. It might be:
  • gpu overheating
  • a broken wire
  • faulty drivers
  • or an internal problem with the graphics card itself.
Has anyone encountered this problem before? Help would be much appreciated! ^_^

Solution [1]: Right, I believe that I was having a similar issue to you a few months ago, to cut it short it was to do with my graphics driver version. Dependent on whether you have a NVidia or AMD card, go to their respective websites:
NVidia: http://www.geforce.co.uk/drivers (I assume your's is GeForce)
AMD: http://support.amd.com/en-us/download
Check if the driver that you have installed is a beta build, if so then it further solidifies the theory. Regardless of the beta status, download the preceding version of the driver and install it.

Solution [2]: If the above is not causing the issue, you mentioned that it may be your graphics card is overheating, this means that it is working too hard. To check if this is the case, you need to measure the temperature: the program that I have is Speccy [https://www.piriform.com/speccy], when loaded up it will give the core GFX card temperature. Anything between 30-60 is considered a good temperature. With it being the summer, to remedy this issue you most probably want to increase the fan speed of GFX card and while you're doing it any other fans you may have.
From here on I don't believe I can help you, it really depends on your BIOS system, I recommend starting here.

Soultion [3]: This may sound stupid but make sure all the connections between your screen and PC are firmly in.
Hope this helped :D

Yesterday I actually figured out the problem: the internal fan on the graphics card had a broken blade that was preventing the fan from spinning and thus was overheating. I only realized this when the blade shot out and almost hit me in the face! xD

Problem fixed, thread locked. :) Thanks for the help, guys! ^_^
