Getting better with hotkeys?

Whenever I try to use hotkeys to switch between weapons, I usually end up having to let go of important WASD buttons or be really slow at the hotkeys. Meanwhile I see people on youtube switching between their fishing rod/FnS and sword in a split second and still manage to pvp really well. This didn't used to be that big of an issue but more and more people are using secondary weapons and my pvp is suffering from it. How do people usually switch between hotkeys effortlessly while not having it interfere with their strafe or movement?

Use your scroll wheel.

Tried that and usually end up doing some weird block-hitting mess that results in me slowing down and getting hit about 4 or 5 times in a row. Or whacking them with my fishing rod. :p

With hotkeys I can get pretty much perfect timing with the mouse buttons, but sacrifice my A or D key.

They use buttons on their mouse. For example, my mouse is a razer naga hex, which has 6 hot keys where your thumb sits

Seems like an interesting idea. I'll try mapping some buttons to my mouse and see if that works.

If you want to learn the rod technique you always have to think before the fight: I have to click '2', '1' if your sword is in slot 1 and rod in slot 2. I always do '2' right click '1'. Then try to do it while you are in a fight, after a while you'll get used to it.

When it comes to learning and mastering PvP.
It takes practice. Other times it just doesn't work.
For example, I had my set up to where FnS was in 9, and sword was in 1. I always had trouble with that no matter how hard I tried. I then changed FnS 2, Sword 1, Bow 3, Fishing Rod 9, Even though I still need to work on the Fishing Rod, I am SO much better because I can offensive FnS with ease

Hope this helped

If you're having problems with hotkeys, try using your scroll wheel or macros. On such mice as the Razer Naga or a Corsair Vengeance M95 there are many buttons on the side with you can set to anything you want. But, personally, #Hotkeys4Lyfe.
