I'm getting an error when I try to join, I've reset my computer, internet and minecraft.
(Error is: ReadTimedoutException : null)

us.mcgamer.net , I think it was because I had rei's minimap, but I can uninstall it if you guys would like

Try directly connecting to a server by copy/pasting an IP you like from here.

Don't use minimaps. And yes, this problem may occur when you have certain mods on that affect the fonts/text files.
