Hi everyone, I've seena lot of technical questioms about computers and such coming on lately, so I decided to make this thread. If you need help with your computer just ask here, I am sure we have a bunch of people on MCGamer that can help.
And if you're a techie guy like me you can just talk here. I couldn't find a thread like this and I also figured this would be the best section to put it.
(Currently on my phone, will fix any typos and such later)

I'll start off a discussion I've been wanting to talk peoples' ears off for a long time:

1). Skype or Teamspeak? (For personal use only)

Someone tried to tell me the other day that Teamspeak uses less resources than Skype does. This is a lie and I'll tell you why. If you open Skype, then you open Task Manager and record how much memory and how much CPU (which is 0% to 0.1%) then close Skype and open Teamspeak, you will actually find that Teamspeak not only takes about the same amount of memory as Skype, but it also takes up more CPU registers and is therefore more processor-consuming.

Why is Teamspeak less efficient for gaming, you say? Your Teamspeak application has to keep track of every single client in your TS channel (channel or chatroom, I forget which, but I think just the chat you're in). Skype isn't a server your computer has to ping to. It's just a direct sharing of data between you and your partner(s) machine(s).

In short, I conclude - as an I.T. major - that Skype is a more efficient use of your computer's resources than Teamspeak for PC gaming, Minecraft especially.

AlgerWaterlow I'd say it really depends on how many contacts you have and chats you're in same with teamspeak. There is no real way to see what uses more recources because they are not the same kind of application. The only thing they have in common is that they are both VoIP clients. But the rest is pretty much different. They both have benefits and downsides, but I personally prefer TeamSpeak over skype just because of the way it's built up. I don't really care about performance as I have a self built computer which runs really well, currently ubuntu 13 on an 80 GB SSD, boots up in 30 seconds :3

Everyone I play with point blank will refuse to use Skype as a communication tool, so I really don't have a say on which one is more efficient. For me, the TeamSpeak software is more efficient in it's design, and, well, to the point.
