can't open chests ??

hey everybody
I've just got minecraft today and sometimes when i play ons survivalgames servers i can't open any chests ...
I've got no idea how to solve that and it really disturbes me because i can't get anything and when you can't open chests in this game you are screwed
Does anyone know how to fix this??
