cant hear players footsteps

I cant hear players footsteps on any blocks besides on wood and gravel. I was wondering how does huahwi hear people that are behind him. I have a decent headset the turtle beach px22s. My blocks and players sounds are all the way up.

I would try restarting your minecraft or re-downloading it
