You can do it for free at minecraft.novaskin.me ; it's a free skin editor that I and a lot of other people use. Just go to the 'Wear' section, and search 'shadow'. You can add shadow/detail, and it's 100% free!

Template's easy; open over a skin, grain merge and it's shaded. I guess pixel-per-pixel shaded skins are a lot more unique though.
