avast! Problems?

I've recently installed avast! due to the suggestion of a friend, but now it's be jacking up my computer...

It's been making black spots on my taskbar and making certain parts of the Start section vanish. Then when I try to shut down my computer, almost nothing is there! Just one strip of grey that makes it pretty much impossible to do anything. And when I tried to open Google Chrome or any other program, the shortcut just turns grey and nothing happens.

Is this just a weird glitch or should I just uninstall it and move on?

I've had avast! for quite a while now, I've never ran into any of these problems. Can you try giving us screenshots? That should help us diagnose your problem.
