+7 attack damage?

I've always and never knew what this meant. When you hover over a weapon with your cursor. It says like +7 attack damage. What does this exactly mean?

If a player has no armor on, and you hit him with that sword, it will do 7 hearts (3.5 hearts) of damage.

There are technically 20 hearts in the 10 hearts (the halfs) and it does 7, which is 3.5 hearts in the 10 hearts.

For every attack damage on a tool it means half a heart of damage to no armor for example is you hit someone with a wood sword which has 4 attack damage it would do 2 hearts. hope this helped c:

It means that, that specific weapon deals a minimum of 3.5 hearts (if the opponent has no armour). +1 attack damage is what your fist does (1 heart). Hope this helps.

To add more to what each of them said, each completely filled slot of armor rating reduces the damage by 4%. Full Iron armor blocks 60% of the damage dealt, IIRC.

+1 attack damage = half of a heart. Technically players have 20 health, each heart is worth 2 health.
