Today in school, we had a presentation on social networking, and the harm it can cause. Being at MCSG for over a year, I have experienced the forums, the game, and the teamspeak. I have noticed that people are in other things, such as school, facebook, and other social networking sites. I think I know why, and we should definitely not change this.

The friendships we make over the internet, in a virtual world, can be significantly better. Just cause you don't know the person, and you can create great friendships.

We heard about people doing terrible things to one another and posting pictures and hurtful comments on instagram or facebook.

Instagram: Instagram has its pros and cons, with over 150 million active users. People don't stop to think what their doing, such as making gang signs, and swearing, and just thinking its a joke. Not everyone has the same viewpoints, or the same thoughts as you do. Many people have posted pictures of others in bad states, such as a story in Ohio, where a girl passed out drunk, and people posted hurtful or harmful pictures of her, and she committed suicide. We need to think before we act, and we need to take into consideration of what we are doing.

Snapchat: Snapchat is a picture sending app, where people send and receive pictures daily. They have the option of taking screenshots, and sending them to people, and posting them other places. People have done it, and ended up in death.

Many hurtful things have been said, and a lot worse of things have happened. This needs to stop, and I think we're doing a good job of it on MCSG.

You rarely see people being mean and vulgar to each other, and hold grudges, at least if they do its a lot less worse than people on social networking. MCSG connects people through communication, and through a game. People create friendhsips, over skype, teamspeak, and whole lot of other things.

As a community I feel we're lucky in the way we treat others and the way we're treated. Thank you MCSG for keeping a great community, even after all of the things we've been through. This truly is a family, and Id like to thank each and every one of you.

The worst one of all is ask.fm, which lets you say things anonymously to other people. I personally know people that have been bullied through it, and I have heard of many people that have committed suicide because of it.

Just recently these 10 people at my school were arrested for Child Pornography because they were sexting through Snapchat. Seldom these occurrences happen, they're still a problem and must be dealt with.

Nice thread. In all honestly I think it's more the user's fault than the social media tool. If you're experiencing a bad community or hostile behaviour, don't participate in it. Luckily, these forums are on the whole a great place and have a great community. People leave but rarely due to any sort of decline in community, and often leave with happy memories.

I believe this thread is very positive about this Community, but you have to remember, where there is friendship, there is almost always going to be entity. I have, myself fallen to the grasp of this antagonism and I do not wish to be caught in its palm any further.

anything social networking site other than Facebook is stupid. I don't care what you got from Starbucks or McDonalds.

There truly is a difference between "social networking" casually and religiously. What I mean by that is when you get too attached to your life over the Internet, it becomes your life. Disregarding all other things you care for in life, you believe that MCSG is real life, and these people are the ones you will know for the rest of your life.

Personally I am tired of building important relationships over the Internet. People leave communities so often that making friends can never be a smooth process. Leaving my personal emotions out of it, "social networking" zaps people out of what's actually important in life. I have seen it become an addiction a number of times. While I do agree that if used casually, it's just a fun experience, some people cling to it.

I love MCSG, Skype, Teamspeak, etc. but I know that it's not the most important thing in my life. Knowing that is what sets the line between playing casually and religiously. I just wanted to get my opinion out there :p.

The only reason I even have a Facebook account is so I can use spotify, and log into imgur easily.
