The most important question I'm ever going to ask on this site.

Is the staff corrupt? Explain.

We want to encourage a process of dealing with curiosity by getting people to, out of habit, ask before they act. It's a principal we try to enforce on a moderators and we're trying on members.
The one problem I see with this method is that, with the constant influx of new users, there will always be plenty of people who don't ask before they act, no matter how much you influence people to. In the same way, there will always be that group of people who refuse to ask before they act, because they do not trust the staff for some reason. (mod banned their friend, one mod did something stupid in front of them and it influence their view of the staff as a whole, etc..) If you don't tell them what happened, and they don't ask, this is what happens - they assume the staff keep things from them, because they never actually went ahead and asked.

If you're going to encourage something like that over just releasing the information in the first place, then there needs to be some drastic changes. To begin with, there needs to be a really, really easy and reliable way of contacting a staff member. Poking them on TS doesn't always get a response right away, forum PM's take time, and I know some staff members don't even respond to those, etc...even just a command in game that sends a message to all staff members with their question, where a mod could respond back with another command, and it would disappear from the view of the rest of the staff. That would be kind of cool, actually. (Although abused - I can see the "omg i was kalled by haker plz help us1234 plz" spam. Although this is just an example.)

And if this were to happen...you would really need it to be obvious that that is the best, and in some cases, only way to get information - just not telling people anything and hoping they ask a question would scare or discourage people more than anything, you would need to actively tell them, over and over, "feel free to ask questions" for everything...and honestly, if it were me, I'd be far too lazy to go ask a staff member a question, waiting for a response, etc...why can't I just know in the first place?

I agree, that you should encourage users to ask questions first if they don't know something, but I also urge that effort be put into giving as much information as possible in the first place. Relying on people asking questions not only creates more work for both parties, (one to ask, the other to read and answer.) but it also causes a number of problems that seem unnecessary, like the reason we're here now. (Also, a more reliable system of staff answering questions that can be monitored by Sr. Staff would be cool.)

I can definitely think of some moderators, sr. mods, etc who are corrupt, but I won't say any names. And yes, there definitely are staff members that don't deserve their rank.

This thread is kind of like this:

Zeno, Slasher, and G33ke, the 3 giant robots, are absolutely fighting to death in New York City while the rest of us are running away from falling buildings, giant fires, and possibly their own giant robot feet from time to time.

I would make some massive post, but I'll go back to the thread's original question and say yes, of course there's corrupt staff, but I personally don't take time out of my day to bash them about it. Do you honestly think that each and every staff member is physically perfect? It's kind of why they get demoted from time to time, you know...

I have seen in recent weeks that new Moderators have been getting mentored from more experienced moderators, which i believe has increased the standards by a lot. It should be compulsory for all new mods if of course they have staff willing to mentor.
I was the one who actually started that trend :p I suggested it, we tried it, it worked and here it is still going today.
On the note of this thread no the staff is far from corrupt and there have been issues in the past but the issues are not caused by the majority it is caused by the few. Sr staff seem to be the bad guy in many cases just because they end up with the cleanup job. Overall the staff is far from corrupt and improvements can be made but I do get tired of these threads :L

Well, a lot of the staff let some people get away with things, but ban others for no reason.

If you see issues like this take it to sr staff immediately with proof and they will deal with it. Moderators are staff and should not be biased. However make sure that it was not just down to a situation change as different rulings can apply in different situations.

Starting from what i can remember from the early posts @Krumblez i had started looking in to that but i got side tracked due to some internal issues i will continue looking in to that when i am feeling better.

Next point kinda hits 2 birds with one stone someone said about admins just siting in there offices well i have a question for you do you know what we are doing well answer is no someone else said we should tell people more about what we are doing well let me put it this way i should't need to tell people what im doing in MY office people dont seam to get that the administration dont sit in there offices doing nothing we work 24/7 even when we are not at our PCs doing things to make your time here better.

On the topic of the map committee you can sugest maps no one ever said that you couldent if you were at the Q & A you would know this people were not allowed to suggest them at the Q & A because that is not what it was for.

Next point peoples bans can you see the evidence no you cant do you know what goes though our minds when we do it no you do not do you know how says to ban some people no you do not this all comes down to one thing that people here do that really annoys me DON'T COMMENT WITHOUT ALL THE FACTS because you will make yourself look like a fool.

My next point this is about something @Zeno said, you can not judge a member of staff on there post on the forums as a lot of staff have disability's that makes typing hard like me and the only people that know all the details about staffs proformace are the admins and with inactivity you can not say someone is inactive if thay have not been on the SG servers for ages because we have other servers adding to that i quote "they are doing nothing at all" 1 question how would you know?

On the information shared freely bit we tell you all the information that we can a lot of information people want to know is what new gametypes will there be but as you rightfully said NDA (For those that dont know what it ishttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Non-disclosure_agreement) stops us from saying i for one dont say much about things on the forums because it takes me to long to type and it is actually painful to do im writing a long post now because im fed up with people thinking the admins do nothing.

Ok moving on to what to do to try and fix this well Col and I are going to set up a Admin Q & A for people to ask about what is going on and about things we are doing as long as we can answer the question and there will be another section after that for questions about us so you can get to know us better because people dont seam to know us all that well for instance people think im not a very nice person but if you get to know me then you will see im actually a nice guy to be around as some new mods have found out.

Now for my last topic why staff higher staff in particular don't talk to normal players simple when we do go to public channels we get nagged about mod apps and ban disputes and questions like why isnt my map on the servers bla bla bla that is why we don't go in public channels it annoys us and everyone in the TS joins the channel.

-Dave

P.S You are the first people to get a kinda long post out of me.

You are not in trouble at all but i do have a message for the community Sr. Mods are chosen for there and if we can trust them because if we had Sr. Mods we do not trust then there no point in them being Sr. Mod so i would like the rumour that kellie had sex with anyone stopped right due to to the fact it is A) insulting to a lot of people and B) impossible due to the fact we are over 1000 miles apart and i do not ever see kellie like that so it stops today.

How would you feel if you were a moderator and the admins just publicly announced a mistake you made? It could ruin your reputation...and that's not fair.
Just wanted to give my input on this, I'd personally prefer it to be publicly announced rather than rumors spreading around about the situation/demotion and people getting the wrong impression of me.
