Posting this here as technically the central build was started before the contest began. Download is available at the planetminecraft page: http://www.planetminecraft.com/project/hunger-games-relic/

Also, after feedback this is more like 75% ;) just can't change the title. Lesson learned.

Requiem
by Guinessis
Features:
  • Multiple complex structures
  • Network of fast-transit high risk skybridges
  • Emphasis on y-axis gameplay
  • Boats scattered around the map
Story:
Centuries ago, a group of wandering pilgrims found an astonishing floating Relic in the midst of a dense jungle. They declared their pilgrimage over, and began to build their villages inside the vast archways of the structures. As time went on these settlers split into various sects, each claiming their own slice of the land. After some initial conflicts, a fragile peace was declared that continued for several generations. However this was not to last as malcontents from the various factions vowed to shatter the land and sing the final song of Requiem. You and your fellow survivors have arrived shortly after the final note was struck, and the land has been abandoned to the shades of Relic.
Updates
5/19/13
Added:
  • Maximum security Restitution fortress.
  • Various camping spots in the jungles.
  • Large tower that will focus on parkour.
  • Landmass surrounding the map for cutting off swimmers
  • Skybridges connecting the center structures to the outer ring.
ToDo:
  • Add another village or two at the coasts of the outer ring.
  • Add secondary corn floating in one of the lakes.
  • Trim vines (again)
  • Add jumping routes to tower.
  • Add chests to new areas
  • Add new details (sugarcane, lilypads, etc)
  • Rework Reckoning to be more visually impressive with lava parkour/traps.
Screenshots (slightly outdated):

The cornucopia is at the center of the map, near the bottom of the massive "Relic." The corn is positioned over a large pit. Players run the risk of being knocked off the platform.

The Relic is centered around this frozen ball of water, shattered and ruined after the Requiem.

The Relic has three main levels with multiple paths between them. Safety is not guaranteed. Particularly intrepid adventurers may use the vines to find hidden chests and move between the levels unseen.

View from the corner of one of the top levels of the Relic.

One of the Relic chambers.

Skybridges are available that connect each of the major structures (Relic, Respite, Resolution, and Refuge). Watch your step.

There are other more forgiving paths as well.

The now-empty and abandoned Quarantine Chamber established during the final days of the Requiem.

Shrine to the shades that started the Requiem.

The elevated city of Refuge, with a skybridge overhead.

The sleepy fishing town of Respite.

Underneath the fortress Resolution.

A sunken structure.

The map is about 70% complete at this point. I plan to add a few more chests here and there, and add a bit more detail to the landscape. If you have any recommendations or requests please let me know.

Thanks!

I'd recommend filling in the larger areas of water or redesigning them so that water chases don't go on for daaayyysss as this can be extremely frustrating :C
What's the radius of the map?

Radius of the map is 200 blocks. Good point on the water sections, I'll get to work on making more islands.

Well yeah, that's what a radius is :p
Perhaps you could incorporate some Easter eggs/Redstone contraptions onto the islands? I'll PM you with further details/ideas as this is a map I'd like to see added and if it is, having everyone know about the secrets won't be ideal.

Very nice, remove some chests in corn( I think it's supposed to be 8 chests?) and make some more islands. Would love to see more from you

This is a beautiful map. But I'd like to see some architecture or mountains or something replacing the water.

Only 8 Corn chests though. Might want to edit that! But looks good, I hope it gets added!

Shaders... why...
Because shaders look purdy.

Plus you literally get twice as many views on PMC. Go figure.

I'll be sure to include some non-shader shots in the final submission for comparison ;) .

In other news, terraforming is underway, and the # of chests at the corn is now 8. Thanks for all the feedback, it has been very helpful so far :D .
