Hello, tributes.
Today we bring you all news about the long-awaited leaderboard and website update. The leaderboard update has been one of the most anticipated updates over the past 6 months, and we’re happy to finally announce our plan to bring this update to you.
When will the release happen?
The leaderboard update will require a short 1 hour network maintenance to coordinate deployment of the entire system, including the necessary plugin updates, database changes, and website changes. We’ve planned this maintenance window for
1 April 2015, between 11:00 AM — 12:00 noon UTC.
We will be opening the network again at 12:00 noon UTC, after which all games of MCSG will be recorded as a part of the new leaderboards system. During or following the network update, the MCGamer website will also be updated. Even if the website portion of the update has not been fully completed by 12:00 PM UTC, the network itself will be online, and all games of MCSG will still be counted as a part of the new leaderboard. We have tried to pick a time that works out as reasonably as possible for a majority of time zones. Here are some conversions to some common time zones:
- US Pacific Time: 4:00 - 5:00 AM
- US Mountain Time: 5:00 - 6:00 AM
- US Central Time: 6:00 - 7:00 AM
- US Eastern Time: 7:00 - 8:00 AM
- GMT/UTC: 11:00AM - 12:00PM
- British Summer Time (UK): 12:00 - 1:00 PM
- Hong Kong Time: 7:00 - 8:00 PM
- Australian Western Standard Time: 7:00 - 8:00 PM
- Australian Eastern Standard Time (Queensland): 9:00 - 10:00 PM
- Australian Eastern Daylight Time (New South Wales & Victoria): 10:00 - 11:00 PM
Will the website be released at the same time?
Yes! Our new website is an integral part of the leaderboard update, so at the same time the servers are in maintenance mode, the website will be undergoing maintenance as well. Please note that the website maintenance may take slightly longer than the network maintenance, as we intend to upgrade the forum software during this time— but as mentioned above, even if the site is not ready, all of your stats will be collected properly from 12:00 noon UTC on the 1st.
What’s all this hoopla about?
We’re glad you asked! There is a lot of new and improved content to experience on our website, from a new design, to new leaderboards, forums, and more!
New website and forums design
With the new website comes a stylish new design, intended to highlight several key aspects of our network to new and existing players alike, such as our vast array of game types, game information and rules, and more. Our current website design dates back to 2012, and as such, it doesn’t incorporate our rebranding to the MCGamer Network. Our new design incorporates this branding change, and is designed with simplicity and ease of use in mind.
Improved leaderboards
The premier leaderboard experience: show off your skill by competing with the best and rising to the top of the overall leaderboards. These leaderboards take into account all games played after the release of the update, unrestricted by the day, week, month, or season. If you were already competing in the old leaderboards, fear not, as the most skilled tributes of the first 3 years of the community's history remain immortalized in the legacy leaderboards.
New leaderboards
In addition to the overall and legacy leaderboards, four new leaderboards will be introduced: daily, weekly, monthly, and seasonal leaderboards. Compete for anywhere between 24 hours and 3 months to reach the top of these leaderboards. You can then show others your performance by giving them the link to that leaderboard, even after the day (or week, month, or season) is over!
Down to the Intricate Details
The new leaderboards include the ability to see nearly every detail you could want to know about your gameplay. With the new leaderboards, you can see how well you did in the game with information such as the map and server you played on, how long each player was alive, who killed who and with what weapon, and how many chests each player opened.
These features are only the start - we plan to add much more intricate information in the future.
What games will be available for leaderboards?
Initially, only MCSG will have leaderboards enabled. In the following weeks, we will be monitoring the leaderboards system and incorporating your feedback and suggestions. We plan to add leaderboards for most of the other games in the coming months leading up to the summer— we’ll post more updates on that as the time comes.
With this prominent update coming soon, keep your eyes peeled and yourselves hyped for yet another slew of exciting updates in the near future!
