While this is a pretty dang interesting (and slightly humorous to some) theory, it's simply impractical.

Angels (or demons) who bring you out of your body and to heaven (or hell) would have had done it thousands, probably millions of times. Escorting you to your final resting (or tormenting) place would be their primary task, with all other things coming second while on the job.
After a few instances of an ethereal being dropping people, don't you think they would make something like a carrier or bag to put us in?
