UPDATE: Maintenance postponed until Monday night while we work out some final issues with 1.8 compatibility.
Whoops! Wrong script. Let me find the right one... ah, here we go!
1.8, MCGamer, and You
It's been almost a year since Minecraft 1.7 originally came out. For those of you who don't know, Minecraft 1.8 will be released Tuesday, September 2. It has changes almost on the scale of the 1.7 update; if any of you remember that, we didn't update until several days after, and that's usually the case with updates this large. However, this time around, we're not saying don't update! - instead, we're pleased to announce that when 1.8 does come out, it is safe to update! Even better, we will continue to fully support 1.7 clients at the same time.
We'll be performing a network maintenance on
So... what about the new features?
Even better news - if you're using 1.8 after the update, you may be able to utilize some of its new features in our games! We're currently in the stages of testing our integration of 1.8's new spectator mode, which allows you to get a first-person view of people (and creatures), noclip through blocks, and fly at different speeds. Shortly after the 1.8 update comes out (within a few days), 1.8 users who play our games will be able to spectate using 1.8's new spectator mode. If you're still running 1.7, no problem - you'll just be using the same classic spectator mode that we've had for years.
We're also working on implementing a few smaller features, such as titles, heads in the player list, and additional information on the player list. While these features only account for a small subset of 1.8's additions and changes, we'll be working on adding more over time.
After reading the script, Devin should tip his hat, lower the plane's landing gear, and prepare for landing. Read standard landing message.
Thanks once again for flying MCGamer - this is your pilot Devin, signing out!
