I feel like the toughest battle I came out on top of was not a battle with a large number of people - it was a battle against a team of highly ranked players...these guys were really good at PvP.
I'd tell the story, but it won't sound as amazing as it seemed to me. My friend apparently was in teamspeak and told me that it was a very large team, but when I actually met them in game, half the team already had died, plus the first two I took out were alone, so I only fought a maximum of two members of the team at a single time...still, with how highly ranked they were, it felt awesome to have taken them out when I was playing solo.
Edit: I do have a time I can talk about, though!
So I was playing on Teweran. I was at corn, waiting for the refill that was going to happen in about 30 seconds. I figured I'd leave myself out in the open, because I had a lot of gear that game and could probably take out anybody who tried to face me. I then see one guy in front of me...he seemed to be no threat really, so I disregarded him for a bit to focus on corn. I turn around and see another guy coming towards me, looking to fight. Just before the fight though, I look around to make sure the other guy I saw not long before wasn't coming, but to my surprise, it wasn't him that was coming, but three other guys from all different directions, one of them with the diamond boots/instant health pots from the dragon, all rushing towards me.
Now I'm running. I know it's far more important that I take these guys out one at a time than taking corn from them. After making my way through them, all four of them tailing me or shooting arrows at me, I find myself at only 4 hearts without even having hit them yet. (they were really good at the bow, even with my strafing...) I turn around after regening to about 6 hearts, get a few hits on two of them making them retreat, and then pull out my bow for the next guy coming at me. Finally, the guy in the back, the weakest, who was firing most of the arrows makes it after I eat a golden apple, and we battle it out a bit, I bring him down to probably 1 heart and he runs off.
Now I'm in no condition to fight, being at about 2 hearts with 3 people not far off about to rush towards me. I jump into the water, and thankfully most followed. I hold them back with my fishing rod for a bit, turn around and hit the guy coming up behind me on the ice a few times, he runs off still being low on health and I jump up onto the ice and run in circles a bit to regen a few hearts. Three of them start running to corn, leaving their strongest to fight me solo. I eat my second golden apple and rush in for the fight. I hit him a few times, get down to about 3 hearts, start running, twist around with my bow and get a shot or two, one more hit with my sword, now he's running and I hit him once more with my bow...he's dead.
The other three were too busy with corn to notice, so I happily took his good stuff, including two instant health II potions and almost a full set of iron as an upgrade from my half leather half chain, but sadly no better sword as his was only stone compared to my iron. Being at full health after throwing one of the potions on the ground, I charge into the corn with my newly found gear, only to find them rushing towards me, ready to fight as well. I start running, trying to make them think I'm weaker than I really am to let their guard down, then twist around for a few arrows on each of them, two back away and the other fights me to the death. Being the weakest of them, I still have 7 hearts left. The next rushes at me, I hit him with a few more arrows and he runs off, and the last one comes for a sword fight. I win with about 2 hearts left, and use my last golden apple, and the last of my remaining arrows on the last guy. I now rush at him for the last hit with my sword while he's against the mountain wall and finish him off...
The remaining guys for deathmatch were using something like stone axes and a leather helmet. Want a play by play for that?
I feel like I'm missing a few details, but it all happened so fast I could hardly tell what was happening most of the time.
