How do you guys feel about Jeter retiring? I feel so sad. What are your thoughts?

The community isn't all American, so you should specify he's an American Baseball player.

BTW, wrong section. Should be in Off-Topic Discussions.

Derek Jeter. I never followed baseball, but I knew enough to hear his name every few blue moons, suggesting that he was a very well-known and high-quality player. Whenever someone like that retires, they usually have a reason - Whether it be conflict within their family, health- or injury-related concerns, or simply old age.

I'm a huge baseball follower, and it pisses me off to see so many people hating on any player, not just Jeter, but Puig, or Kershaw, or Trout, or A-Rod. Jeter was an amazing player and it's terrible that he has to retire at all, but some fans are really going about showing their feelings about him the wrong way. He will be #6 on the all-time hits leaderboard by the end of the season, an he helped the Yanks get 5 rings. Jeter is awesome.

Now, I personally am a Dodgers and a Rays fan. I see so much hate for Puig its not even funny. Like I know he's not some all-star just yet, but you have to give him credit that he is at least somewhat above-average.

Seeing as I am a very strong NYY fan, this is very saddening to me, I wish that he could be there longer, playing longer... but like all good things, they end. And I will probably going to his induction when it happens, because a 5 minutes drive is pretty nice :3

Derek Jeter had been my baseball idol for my whole life, so it obviously sucks to see him approaching retirement. However, I'm not that sad because I know it's his time to move on to other things in his life (he can't play baseball forever :p). Baseball just won't quite be the same without a class act like him around.

Sorry for this double post, and most everyone knows he's an American baseball player. Chill..

He wasn't angry and there are plenty of non-Americans here that probably don't know him. Why does he need to chill?

It's unfortunate, but he had a very strong career. As much as we wish our favorite athletes could always be there, retirement is inevitable.

Seeing as I'm a rangers fan I never followed him, but I know he is a great name in baseball, and it will be a shame to see him go.
