The Reason I Got VIP

Honestly I really liked the idea of Friend rank and am still confused as to why it was removed. That is my first question:

Why was friend rank removed and what "problems" did it cause?

Secondly, darkai202 is correct, I can think of several really good moderators who never got that 'free platinum' rank. Some old moderators had to buy it for themselves, since they never got it. Others bought a rank and then got their platinum, still costing them money. Friend ranks who had it for other reasons, like you levi_the_potato? Some of them never even got a rank. Their friend rank was taken off and that was that. I'm thinking about Thedorkyd1 as my main example for this, but I am sure this is not an isolated situation.

Besides that, I feel that getting platinum as a retired moderator, if you even get it, does not give that same recognition to a player as the Friend Rank did. I heard from someone somewhere that they removed it because too many players were getting the rank. I never quite understood that, since what defined too many? Many people may read this and say: "demon, what could a player want more than too have the highest donor rank?" To that I may respond that it is fair enough, I would believe this acceptable to give a moderator after they resign. I assume their is a certain amount of time a player needs to be a moderator for, around 3+ months maybe. In fact, for a moderator's service, in return they receive a $100 dollar gift!!! What more could you want?

Ex-moderators getting platinum is sufficient to repay them for their services. However, it doesn't give the same recognition that the Friend rank did. I may be isolated in this, but when I saw an undisguised Friend Rank, my first question would be:

Are you a retired mod?

If they answered this question yes, then I would thank them for the work they had done on the servers. If they answered no, I always wished that I could figure out what they had done to get that rank. What had they done differently? Unless they know an Administrator in person or are related to Chad, what had they done that so many others haven't? Then to get VIP instead of a lot of moderators (clears throat) HyP3rKi113r is to me just outrageous.

levi_the_potato, I am in no way blaming you and if this came across like that I am sorry. You simply did what was best for you and the outcome came it our pretty well and I applaud you for that. I am, however, upset that you received such a kind gift while other moderators have been left sitting in the dust with the removal of the friend rank, while you, a member who really did nothing to help the community, gets the highest non-staff rank.

Friend rank was removed by Chad because it caused more problems than good things. The problems are more towards drama which was not needed. People would suck up to the staff trying to get it for one, which is absolutely pitiful in my opinion. I'm not exactly sure how but I was told by Sr. Staff at one point Friend rank had silent join, meaning they could join and leave servers without it showing up, that they abused it. Then they took it away to prevent it. That was before my time of getting the rank. Another thing, Chad never liked the rank and it's his servers. He can do what he wants. Friend rank was even made without his authorization. Friend rank was not all it was cracked up to be honestly. Sure I loved it and the perks, but it wasn't too much above platnium. It had 2 votes compared to 5, it didn't have silent join, and it just had join power over platinum, which is highly unlikely a platinum would get kicked for a higher rank anyway. In my opinion, it was just a pretty pink rank. Lower but above platinum. Now about the good moderators, I'm sorry to hear about them but honestly I think they're still sorting out who gets platinum and who doesn't so they might get it or might not. Col. Star is doing them, definitely not me lol. But Friend rank wasn't friend of administrator or related to Chad, it was Sr. Staff, meaning Sr. Moderators could request someone to get it and the higher Sr. Staff would decide whether or not they should get it. Saying I have done nothing to help the community is clearly an understatement. I haven't done much, and it's not really enough for a special rank, but I am always in the hub helping people. I catch hackers, and help the Staff a lot with people who break the rules. I'm pretty much a moderator who's VIP. Yes, I got "the highest non-staff rank" but you got to understand I deserve it. If you don't think so, bring it up with Chad, because he told the Sr. Staff to give me VIP. There's so much you don't seem to understand or know about Friend rank and it's removal or why I got VIP, but it's not my problem. I understand your side of the argument, and thank you for your opinion.

Just a couple things...

As has been said multiple times every time this has come up, the friend rank was created under an entirely different administration team quite a while ago, without Chad's permission or authorization. The friend rank was, literally, just for friends of those admins. The way to earn friend rank was never set in stone, it was just given to whoever they wanted.

Over time, as this administration team faded away and was replaced, the friend rank started to be given to ex-mods who were friends of the admins. Gradually, every single ex-mod began to receive the rank, even if they had done no work before resigning. The only reason you wouldn't get it is if you were demoted.

The issues with this rank began when the servers were being overrun by friend ranks; the name was also inaccurate, as some 'friends' were known by literally nobody. And so, the requirements for the rank were increased, and you need to have done a large amount of work and also left on good terms This resulted in complaints from ex-mods who felt that they deserved the rank because they had been part of the staff for half a year, a year, despite not doing any work. I still see this reasoning being used for people that deserve the rank, and I'm just gonna say now: one person that is regularly brought up made about 60 actions in 10 months. That's one action every 5 days. I've seen people making 60 actions in 5 days quite often.

MCGamer was the only community to ever reward ex-staff members in any way. Most other communities also require players to be a premium member to even apply for the mod position; ex-staff members here get given a rank for free, in honor of their work.

If somebody applied to be a mod here with the intent of earning 'respect' or 'recognition', and wanted to show that off with a special rank once they resigned, then they became a mod for the completely wrong reason.

I get what you mean but, unfortunately, now the same thing will happen with the VIP rank... The only problem to prevent it would be not having any kind of rank for being friends with the Sr. Staff, which would be unfortunate in my opinion.

If anyone here thought about it, you are basically getting a rank that has more power then a rank that we pay real money for..
