On the 12th of June LovePVP will shut down because it was too expensive to run, as Lovelights is one person, not a huge network. For those of you who don't know LovePVP was a server created by former MCG staff member Lovelights. (I hope I am not breaking any advertising rules, but I think since it is shutting down it is ok) A large portion of the MCG community played on this server, even though it was never apart of the MCG network. It was a great way to improve PVP skills, as you got to practice 1v1 battles, so you were prepared for them in an MCSG game. And, of course it was also a lot of fun.

You probably get where this thread is going by now, but yes I would like to see a 1v1 server added to MCG. There is a big difference between a 1v1 server and an FFA server like Battlegrounds. Both types are great ways for players to improve their PVP skills, and I believe that both should be found on this server.

In a FFA server you get practice with running away from players when you are low, and sometimes encountering teams. Also, it is a great way to practice different techniques since getting killed is no big deal.

In a 1v1 server there is one major difference. And that is that your both start with equal everything; hunger, health, armor, weapons, arrows, everything is equal. This means there are no side factors, it is just you and your opponent fighting it out. For me this makes it more fun, and is also really good practice, because fighting a player with equal equipment gives you a better understanding of how you stack up against other players. For these reasons, I think the MCG community would really enjoy a 1v1 server, to practice their PVP, and have tons of fun at the same time.

Now, I have asked the staff about this before, and it seems that their biggest concern is that it won't be fun because the wait for an arena would be too long. Well LovePVP was able to host 12 arenas on one server with minimal lag. 12 times two is 24. So 24 player could be fighting at once on one server. A fight takes about 30 seconds on average, so you could easily double that number to 48 that could all have fun on the server at once with very short waits. Now sacrifice a couple useless SGC servers that are always at 0/24 and you would have five 1v1 servers that could hold a total of 240 people. That is more than enough, and you wouldn't even have to buy new servers since you are just borrowing some never used SGC servers.

Another important factor is the leaderboards. The leaderboard should be done with points being the deciding factor not wins. This is because you could have 1000 wins and 10000 loses quite easily since like I said, these games are quick. And also, a ratio wouldn't work well either, since you could log on and win your first game and go top. However, your wins and losses would still be stored, and a stat reset could be purchased in the store.

Well, that is about it. MCG should add a 1v1 server. I am posting this in the community section, because I don't see a better place to put it. Since feature suggestions are only for specific gamemodes.

Meh, Zincbox, Roxbot, JDCraft, or another would do just as well.

MCG -- PvP based.

Yeah, I think we should have a 1v1 server.

Calm down buddy, just pointing out the facts. Either way, one of the servers he listed is down too, so aren't you even in a way?
It is down but it is coming back. It is getting revamped.

You can't just 'move' servers on will, as you are suggesting; you have to unlink it, reestablish it, and make sure it is working. It isn't a five minute job, but it isn't overly difficult either - I am only pointing this out because you seemed to imply otherwise.

It's a thoughtful suggestion - I'll give you that. MCSG has evolved from survival to a PvP aspect, and decent PvP skills are a requisite for having at least moderate success out there against the top dogs. These skills can be developed and attained through several means, and the one you are suggesting is a 1v1 server. Let's think about this.

First off, the plugin. With so many other priorities (new gamemodes and current gamemode enhancements, to name a few), developing a new plugin from scratch is certainly not going to escalate to a high position on the priority list. It doesn't seem overly popular enough with the right crowd to be a controversial matter, so it would take a while for it to arrive anyways.

Second, the benefits. How many benefits do you get out of this? Besides slightly enhancing your PvP skills, what else can one obtain from this development? To be fair, the first one is slightly out weighted. MCSG is an interesting gamemode, and I am finding 'fair 1v1s' to be extremely uncommon, evidenced by the steady, yet growing rate of messages complaining about getting 'cleaned up'. If anything, this will only teach us how to mitigate one fight, but not any nearby action that may unfold as it usually does.

That's about all I got. Admittedly, I also feel a 1v1 server would be nice, but in my opinion, there isn't a huge need for one, and not really enough significant explanations as to why there should be one.
