Optifine won't open

I'm trying to install optifine, but it isn't working. It downloads like it's supposed to, but it isn't a file that I can add to MC... It's a NOTEPAD. Meaning it's all code on a word page that I can't use. Can anyone explain this?
(To whom it may concern, I'm using windows 10.)

No, this does not include my predicament. It opens up on a notepad, even though I follow the steps

Molotov is very much correct. You right click the Optifine file > Open with > Java.
