Filing a Ban Dispute

Hello,

Ban Disputes is a system which allows players who were incorrectly banned to get unbanned here at MCGamer. This is a guide that will show you how to post a Ban Dispute and how the process of posting one works.

Keep in mind that filing a ban dispute offers no guarantee of an unban here at MCGamer. Ban Disputes are for people who believe they were banned unfairly. Our forgiveness policy is very strict and users rightly banned for severe offenses such as hacking and DDoS threats will likely be upheld.

If you wish to know further in detail of how exactly how Ban Disputes work, please refer to this PSA by the Senior Staff:

http://www.minecraftsurvivalgames.com/threads/psa-ban-disputes-how-do-they-work.81048/
___________
Creating your Dispute

Ban disputes must be posted in the proper section, found here: http://www.minecraftsurvivalgames.com/forums/Disputes/

A user may post a ban dispute using the “post new thread” button found at the bottom of the page. All ban disputes should be titled, “NAME’s Ban Dispute” with “NAME” being the username of the account that was banned.

For example, if your Minecraft account name is “BannedPlayer”, the title of your ban dispute should be as follows: BannedPlayer’s Ban Dispute, or Ban Dispute - BannedPlayer

___________
Using The Template & what kind of answers are expected.

All ban disputes made have to follow a preset template so that we are given all necessary information. In this section, we will demonstrate how this template should be filled out.

Where have you been banned? (Minecraft server/Teamspeak/Livestream):
This is where you identify where on the network you were banned, whether on the Minecraft servers, TeamSpeak server, official livestream, or any other part of the network
Username on the platform you were banned on:
Here you will need to put down your exact in-game name so that it may be checked for the ban information. Make sure to only put the name of the account/identity that is banned!

Any reason why you have been banned:
You will need to put the exact reason given when you were banned. This is usually easily found by trying to log in to the location on the network where you have been banned.

When did you get banned?:
Post the date you were banned as close as you can find it, and do not exaggerate the time from which you were banned. If you were banned six months ago, say you were banned six months ago, not two years ago.

How long does your ban have left?:
Post the time until the expiry of the ban. If you are disputing an already expired ban, just put “Already Expired”

Why do you think you should be unbanned?:
In this section, you will need to explain your reasoning for posting the dispute and all relevant information which has lead you to believe the ban is unfair. This is probably the most important section of the dispute, and it is essential that you be as detailed as possible.

If you are asking for forgiveness for your ban, please provide evidence as to why you believe you are worthy of being unbanned, and what you have done for the community that proves that the good outweighs the bad.

Do you accept the rules of the server, and shall not break them in the future?:
Just give an honest answer. If you believe were banned unfairly and have not broken any rules, it should be obvious that you are not going to break any rules in the future.
Proper Ban Disputes (What you should do)
A Ban Dispute is expected to be filled out professionally and honestly, and must use the template so that we can obtain all the information needed. If you post a ban dispute without the template, it will be denied and you will be redirected to the template and asked to make another dispute.

Here is an example of a well formatted, respectful, and solid ban dispute.

___________
Improper Ban Disputes (What you should not do)

While needing to dispute a ban may be a frustrating situation, you are expected to act in a respectful manner while doing so. Including insulting or ill-mannered text in your dispute will never increase your chances, and may decrease them by making your dispute less legible. You must also be sure to answer every question presented in the template. Failure to do so will likely result in your application being closed. Also of note, users are only allowed to dispute their own bans. You cannot submit a dispute for a friend, nor can a friend submit a dispute for you. If you are forum banned and thus cannot submit a dispute, you may email any admin your dispute using the emails they have in their teamspeak office descriptions. If you cannot get these emails, a staff member can share them with you.
What Ban Disputes must not contain:
  • Insults and ill-mannered Text
  • Text that may offend others
  • Disputing another person’s ban
What Ban Disputes must contain:
  • Honesty
  • A respectful attitude
  • The correct Template
  • All questions must be answered (Includes questions Staff ask of)

____________
Examples of bad ban disputes

Now that we have gone over how ban disputes should be done, we are going to present some examples of users who did not follow this advice. So if you ever come across yourself having to post a Ban Dispute, below is what you don’t do.

Reasons why these are bad Ban Disputes:
  • They do not Follow the required Template
  • Does not contain the intel we need
  • Threatening to leave for another community is only sad and very pitiful. (Won’t work. Ever)
___________
A breakdown of the status tags and what they mean
Depending on the state of your dispute, it will be given one of a few possible status tags. We will give a brief explanation of these tags in the following section.

{No tag}
This is the tag every ban dispute starts with, and it means no action has yet been taken regarding the dispute

This tag is given in rarer cases when the staff member reviewing the dispute is, for whatever reason, unable to take any action on the dispute at that time. This is usually done when the dispute can only be handled by a staff member with great understanding of the situation, or needs to be passed on to an administrator or dev for further review and/or confirmation.

This tag is given when a ban dispute is filed in such a way that no action can be made. If you filed your ban dispute incorrectly, this is the tag it will likely receive.

If the ban being disputed was only a temporary one, and the staff member reviewing the dispute decided that the ban is valid, this is the tag it will be given after it is closed.

This tag functions similarly to the previous one, only this one is given to permanent bans being disputed.

If, after all information provided has been reviewed, the staff member decides that the ban should not remain on the account, the dispute will be given this tag and the account’s ban will be removed. If your ban dispute received this tag, the ban will not be held against you in the future.

_________
What happens afterwards/the waiting process

Once a ban dispute has been correctly posted, it will usually take between 1-3 days to receive a response. This can vary based on the availability of senior moderators to process the queue, but it usually won’t stray far from that time frame; on average, there are over 10 disputes made per day

If your dispute is taking longer than expected to be reviewed, you should never take it directly to senior staff and ask for it to be looked at. Usually, if you feel your ban dispute is being neglected, it less likely a result of negligence and more likely a result of the amount of ban disputes being submitted. If we go straight to your dispute, that would mean those who are further back in the queue would have to wait even longer, which would obviously not be fair to them. For this reason, it is important to remain patient while disputing a ban. Even if it takes a little while, everyone will have their dispute reviewed when it is their proper turn in the queue.

It is also important to know that disputes are looked at and responded to based on how long the user has been waiting, and we go from the back to the front. Therefore, users who posted on their disputes last will get responses first. As such, if you bump your dispute you will just make yourself wait longer by placing it further up in the queue.

What happens if a Ban Dispute is unsuccessful:
If your ban dispute is unsuccessful, it is usually a bad idea to submit another after. While occasionally differences of opinion may pop up, The senior staff are rarely of differing opinion regarding disputes, and our decisions aren’t going to be swayed by repeat submissions. If there is more information regarding the ban that was not including in the previous dispute, and you believe this information may affect the validity of the ban, it may be a good idea to post a new one with this information. Otherwise, it is not a very good idea to post duplicate disputes, and if you just repost your dispute with no information, your dispute will be denied.

What happens if a Ban Dispute is successful:
If the user’s Dispute is successful, It means their ban was proven to be unfair and shall be granted an unban and be free to play on our Network once again. Be sure to not break any more rules from this point forward. Failure to comply with our rules may result in a more severe punishment, as well as risking having to go through this entire process again.

Just a question.

Lets say you got banned for hacking, you post a ban dispute and you're proven to not hack and get unbanned. What happens if you get banned again for hacking, and again you weren't hacking? Will you get ignored? Will you get permabanned?

Well in that case, the user will again have to go through the Ban Dispute process, but they will not be ignored or permbanned for doing so.

What were to happen if someone had a short temp ban, would they be able to appeal to get it off their record? For example, if one were to aquire a ban of 12 hours, would they be looked at 3 days later after their ban was uplifted? Also, would it be possible for someone to appeal to a former temp ban that ended before they had the chance to appeal to remove it, so they could apply for mod?

Yes. It isn't always possible for us to get to short bans in time, so you can dispute an expired ban so that it cannot be held against you.
